SoundHop Privacy Policy
In one sentence: SoundHop does not collect personal data, does not track you, does not upload information from your Mac, and never records or reads any audio content. It does exactly one thing — switch the system's default audio output device.
1. Information we collect
SoundHop does not collect personal data and does not transmit any data off your Mac. The app runs locally and gathers no personally identifiable information, usage statistics, advertising identifiers, analytics data, or diagnostic data. In Apple's Privacy Manifest, the declared "data types collected" is none.
To provide its core feature, SoundHop reads local audio output device information from macOS, such as device names, device identifiers, transport types, availability status, and the current default output device. This information is used only on your Mac to display the menu and switch audio output devices. It is not uploaded, shared, or used to identify you.
2. Tracking and third parties
SoundHop contains no analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs, and has no tracking domains. Normal use does not depend on a network connection, and no information is ever sent to our servers or any third party.
- No third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDKs
- No advertising identifiers or cross-app tracking
- NSPrivacyTracking is declared false, with an empty tracking-domains list
3. Microphone and audio content
SoundHop requests no microphone permission and does not record, monitor, or read any audio content. It only enumerates the available output devices through the public macOS Core Audio APIs and sets the system default output. The entire process is device routing, unrelated to whatever you are playing.
4. Permissions and runtime environment
SoundHop runs inside Apple's App Sandbox, where permissions are constrained by the system. It uses only public, documented system APIs:
- Read the list of currently available audio output devices
- Read local device names, identifiers, transport types, and availability status for display and switching
- Set the system's default audio output device
- (Optional) Enable "Launch at Login" after you turn it on
5. Data storage
The app stores only local preferences, such as whether to show only available devices, whether to also switch system output, and whether to show device transport types. These settings live in standard macOS user preferences and never leave your device. Launch at Login is managed through Apple's system service after you enable it.
6. Children's privacy
SoundHop is not specifically designed for children and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
7. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. The core privacy principle is that SoundHop does not collect personal data or transmit your information off your Mac.
